Pune city may face further water cuts

PUNE: The city is likely to face further water cut. On Wednesday, the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division shut one of the pumps of the Khadakwasla dam. The civic administration conveyed the development to Mayor Mukta Tilak and Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. Late night discussions are being held by civic officials and politicians on the water cut issue.

Pune city’s water supply was reduced from 1,350 Million Litre Per day (MLD) to 1,250 MLD. The effect will be seen in old city areas, especially in peth areas. The PMC has already implemented water cut by providing once a day water supply at high pressure for five hours. The civic body is implementing the schedule from last month.

After this move, the civic body has to take some decision on the water cut. Rajendra Nimbalkar, Additional Municipal Commissioner, said, “We came to know that the Irrigation Department has shut one of the pumps. Hence, it will affect water supply of the city from Friday. We will discuss the water issue and take a decision later.”
