Pune: Bhor Congress warns of agitation if potholes not filled within 10 days

Pune: Bhor unit of Indian National Congress Party has warned of an agitation on the Pune-Bengaluru highway if potholes between the Sarola and Shindewadi stretch are not filled within 10 days. The workers of Bhor Congress met the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director Suhas Chitnis and submitted a letter in this regard.

The Sarola-Shindewadi stretch on the Pune-Bengaluru road - part of National Highway 4 - is riddled with potholes. Minor accidents are reported daily on this stretch. Several commuters, passengers are injured in these accidents which are often not reported to the police or other agencies, however, citizens have to bear large amounts of money on medical treatment.

Mahesh Tapre, Anil Sawant, Mahesh Bobade, Nilesh Bhorade, Prakash Bhorade, Lahu Salunke, Hanumant Karbhal, Praveen Kondhalkar, Sagar Tapre and others were part of the delegation which met NHAI Project Director Suhas Chitnis.

The letter given by Bhor Congress workers states that the road work between Shindewadi and Sarola has been going on for years. Due to this incomplete work, several accidents are happening on this stretch every day. Citizens are injured in these accidents and several have also died due to serious injuries. The NHAI is not keen on completing this road project and because of the inferior quality of work, it is riddled with potholes.

Commuters have to bear the losses to their health and vehicles apart from being stuck in traffic jams everyday as a result of slow-moving traffic on pothole-ridden roads. These potholes should be filled immediately as the monsoon season has started and motorists face problems due to low visibility and potholes on the road. If these potholes are not filled within 10 days, then Bhor Congress unit workers will start agitation on the highway itself.

NHAI Project Chitnis has assured Bhor Congress workers that appropriate action will be taken in this regard. All potholes will be filled up within 10 days, said Chitnis.
