Pune: 27-year-old man and woman colleague abducted from Senapati Bapat Road, eight suspects nabbed

Pune: A 27-year-old man and his woman colleague were abducted from near ICC towers on Senapati Bapat road. They were being taken to Satara by eight suspects who approached the duo under the pretext of being police personnel and forcibly pushed them into a vehicle. 

Meanwhile, sensing the gravity of the situation, Chatuhshrungi police swung into action and rescued the two within minutes of receiving the information related to kidnapping.

Chatuhshrungi police have arrested eight suspects in this regard. They have been identified as Dattatraya Ramchandra Bhoite (34), Sandeep Kisan Jadhav (28), Akshay Krishna Dixit (26), Sagar Anil Kolekar (23), Mangesh Rajaram Khandjode (18), Shubham Navnath Barkade (20), Mangesh Ramesh Shinde (21), Rahul Balasaheb Barkade (27) and Kiran Dilip Babar (23), all residents of Satara. Hrithik Uttam Mohite (27), a resident of Parvati Darshan has complained in this regard at the Chatuhshrungi police station.

According to police, the complainant is a salesperson. At about 7.30 pm on Saturday, the complainant and a young woman from his office stopped for a chat near the ICC Tower on Senapati Bapat Road. At that moment, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (MH 11 CW 9792) came near them and stopped.

Six to seven of those unidentified persons told the complainant and the girl that they were taking them to the police station. The suspects forcibly pushed the complainant and the girl into the vehicle. The suspects then drove to Chandni Chowk and from there through the Dehuroad-Katraj bypass reached Katraj Ghat on Pune-Bangalore highway. There, the suspects thrashed the complainant and he was thrown out of the vehicle. The suspects kept the girl in the vehicle and speeded towards Satara.

Meanwhile, the Chatuhshrungi police received information about this incident. Since the crime was initiated within the jurisdictions of Chatuhshrungi police station, all officers and field staff were alerted about the gravity of the situation. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, senior police inspector Anil Shewale and his team immediately started tracking down the suspects. The suspects were arrested at a toll plaza near Satara at 3.30 am on Sunday. The case is being investigated by Assistant Inspector of Police Sameer Chavan.

Pankaj Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) said, "We received information that the youths were abducted from Senapati Bapat Road area. When the Chatushrungi police inspected the spot, a vehicle was found there. Meanwhile, we immediately launched a search operation. At that time, it was learned that the vehicle was passing through a toll plaza near Satara on the highway. Accordingly, police swung into action, seized the vehicle and nabbed the suspects."
