Pune: 24 from bridegroom family test positive for COVID-19

Pune: Five more relatives of a newly married couple from Kasurdi village of Daund Taluka have tested positive for COVID-19 disease. So far, 24 family members of the couple have contracted the infection, after their marriage ceremony concluded last week on July 18. 

In the past 15 days, two marriage functions were held in Daund taluka. The bridegrooms were from Kasurdi village while the grooms were from Uruli Kanchan in Haveli Taluka. Out of those, one couple had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 18. After their reports were received, other family members and relatives who had come in close contact with the couple were also asked to undergo tests. On July 20, it was revealed that 17 persons had contracted the infection from the couple. Now, five more persons developed symptoms COVID-19 and have been diagnosed positive for the disease.

In Daund taluka, excluding the city areas, 194 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the last three months from April 29 to July 24. Taluka Health Officer Dr Ashok Rasage said, “Out of 194 patients, 79 have recovered and 111 patients are undergoing treatment. Four deaths due to COVID-19 have been recorded so far.”

On July 24, swab samples of 102 persons from Daund taluka were sent for testing at a laboratory in Pune. Out of those, reports of 19 persons said they were positive for Covid-19. Dr Rasage said, “These patients are from Kasurdi, Kedgaon, Sahajpur, Nandgaon and Mirwadi villages. Of the 19 patients, 11 are women and 8 are men. 10 patients have been asked to stay at home in quarantine while others have been admitted to the COVID Care Centre at Yavat.”

Apart from Daund taluka areas, the Daund city areas have also reported a rise in COVID-19 cases. Recently a 10-month old baby and 8 years old boy had tested positive for the disease. Daund has been demarcated as a containment zone and the strict lockdown has been implemented in the area.
