Pune: Avinash Vishwanath Bhoi, a 52-year-old photographer from Shirur, lost his mother a fortnight back following a brief illness. Relatives, friends offered condolences during the last rites, but two days later he and his elder brother developed symptoms of COVID-19. While both were admitted in a hospital for treatment he succumbed to the disease on Friday (July 17). COVID-19 has left the Bhoi family devastated.
Avinash was a sportsperson and was a part of the NCC head at the Bora College. He had also participated in a Republic Day parade on Rajpath in Delhi. He was known as a helpful person and also contributed to Sakal newspaper occasionally with his exclusive photographs.
Avinash was also suffering from kidney disease. His brother Ravi (54) is under treatment at a COVID Care Centre. Avinash's younger son Prathamesh now has to take care of the family besides the mounting expenses due to the Covid-19 treatment.
Avinash's mother Kamal (72) died on July 5. Avinash and Ravi had met several relatives during the funeral and condolence meet. Two days later, Avinash complained of shortness of breath. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Pune city. A swab sample was collected and COVID-19 test was conducted on Avinash. The report of this test came positive. Health officials requested his family members and other relatives who had come in contact to undergo COVID-tests.
While others tested negative for the novel coronavirus, Ravi's report came positive. However, Ravi had very mild symptoms and hence was admitted to a COVID Care Centre in Shirur under isolation. His condition is stable and under observation. Treatment of Avinash was going on for more than 10 days. He was put on ventilator support for the last two days. His health started deteriorating further and he succumbed to the disease on Friday morning at around 10 am.
