PSCDCL, SPPU tie up to boost innovation

PUNE: Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited’s (PSCDCL) PIFF (Pune Idea Factory Foundation) has tied up with the Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Linkage (CIIL) to further boost and implement innovative ideas. A Statement of Intent (SOI) to this effect was signed by Vice-Chancellor of SPPU Dr Nitin Karmalkar and CEO of PSCDCL Dr Rajendra Jagtap. 

To accelerate a culture of innovation in the city, PIFF is driving the innovation agenda in Pune. After successfully conducting the NITI Aayog-Pune Smart City Hackathon and recently held global hackathon, MoveHack in the city of Austin, US and mentoring various hackathons organised in the city, PIFF is driving the implementation of innovative projects through start-ups. 

Pune Idea Factory Foundation is a fully owned subsidiary of PSCDCL, that has been set up as a non-profit organisation dedicated to boost the start-up ecosystem in Pune and drive the innovation agenda. Pune Smart City has successfully conducted two hackathons in partnership with NITI Aayog and one hackathon in partnership with the City of Austin, US. 

The hackathons which focused on various issues on urban governance including urban mobility, citizen safety and security, health, solid waste management and digital connectivity saw an overwhelming participation by delegates from various parts of the country that brainstormed on ideation and provided solutions on innovative start-up ideas in meeting day to day urban governance issues.

Dr Rajendra Jagtap, CEO, PSCDCL said, “Innovation is an important part of a Smart City, with various initiatives related to innovation being conceptualised by Pune Smart City and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. We want to bring in a culture of innovation and this collaboration is an attempt to move towards that.”

Manojit Bose, CKO, PSCDCL was quoted saying, “Continuing with the agenda to drive innovation, this partnership between PSCDCL and CIIL-SPPU could serve as a platform for budding entrepreneurs to receive mentorship and incubation support. Both the organisations will jointly pursue several opportunities focused around innovation and hopefully provide an impetus to efforts in this area.”
