Printing press fire leaves two dead

Pune:Two persons were charred to death in the fire, which broke out at a at a printing press in the wee hours of Wednesday. The incident took place at a printing press located at Himalaya Heights building near Shivaji Nagar bus stand. 

The deceased have been identified as Narpat Singh Rajput, 23 and Laxmanram Sutar, 33, who originally hailed from Rajasthan and were presently residing at Nigdi. Both used to work in printing press which produces cardboard boxes, paper bags and print items. 

Six fire department vehicles and a tanker was rushed to the spot to put down the high intensity fire which engulfed the printing. Smoke streamed out of the press even after the fire was extinguished by the fire department. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. 

According to the information provided by the police, the workers used to work late in the night on regular basis and were given a key of the establishment by the owner. They used to sleep inside the printing press after finishing their work. On the intervening night of Tuesday- Wednesday both Rajput and Sutar were working in the press and went to sleep after finishing their work. 

Prabhakar Shinde, Police Inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station, said, “Body of both the workers were completely charred and were beyond recognition. It was very unfortunate that both the workers died. They didn’t even get a chance to come out from there. The place doesn’t even have fire extinguishers otherwise things would have turned out differently. We have initiated an investigation in order to find the exact cause of fire.
