Portal helping patients raises money through crowdfunding

PUNE: The power of digital media is now helping many families to raise funds for patients. A patient’s family is currently benefiting through crowdfunding initiated by ImpactGuru.com, where anyone can donate money in whatever amount they want in order to help the patient.

The patient who is in the coma after brain surgery is now recovering. However, for his day-to-day medical treatment, this financial aid is very helpful, said his family members.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Ankur Garg, a close relative of 29-year-old patient Ajay Agarwal, said he is about to get married and now he is battling for life.

“After a sudden stroke caused by a huge brain hemorrhage, Ajay was running the risk of contracting pneumonia and bedsores in the hospital. “We have exhausted all our savings. However, after the surgery, we have now moved Ajay back home but he needs medical help and a fulltime nurse. But we are out of funds. This crowdfunding is actually helping us and Ajay,” said Garg.

Crowdfunding platform ImpactGuru.com has helped raise Rs 8.25 lakh in 23 days which is about 40 per cent of the requirement of Rs 20 lakh for his treatment. The initiative was widely circulated by ImpactGuru.com through its internet and social media outreach.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Piyush Jain, Co-founder and CEO of ImpactGuru.com said that according to a recent report, around five crore Indians are pushed into poverty every year because of healthcare costs.

“An equal number of people are prevented from accessing healthcare due to the costs being unaffordable and they continue to live with major illnesses or go to quacks who may end up worsening the condition of the patient. This crowdfunding was an initiative to help patients by contributing,” said Jain.

He added a major role was played by social media as it can reach millions. “Everyone can help a little. In this case, people may reach impactgu.ru/help-ajay and donate. Since the last four years, we have a track record of impacting over 1,00,000 lives and mobilising over Rs 150 crore across 15 countries,” said Jain.
