Political parties may check VVPATs, EVMs

PUNE: Following the ongoing testing of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) and Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in Bhosari, officials of the Election Branch said that approved representatives of political parties can check for functioning of the machines which can be done till October 31.

Deputy Election Officer Monika Singh said the machines were checked by District Collector Naval Kshire Ram and other officials. “Similarly, representatives of political parties can check for the functioning of the machines. The machines are tested on various parameters for its performance so that no untoward incident occurs on the voting day,” added Singh. 

The testing of the machines is going on at Bhosari Maharashtra Vakhaar Mahamandal godown. Officials said that operations like function check, mock poll, data update, symbol loading and other parameters are being tested.

Pune district has about 16,690 ballot units and 9,762 control unit including 9,762 VVPAT machines. Officials said that many a time there are allegations of machines being rigged or tampered and so it is decided to keep the testing process transparent to avoid such allegations.
