Police make arrangements to ensure law and order in State

PUNE: The Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police are making special arrangements to ensure that law and order is maintained in the State ahead of the Supreme Court (SC)’s verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case which is expected before November 17. Keeping a watch on WhatsApp and social media like Facebook and Twitter is the key strategy of the police.

Officials said that as per instructions from the office of the Director-General of Police, Maharashtra State, all leaves/weekly offs have been cancelled till further orders. Meetings with Peace Committees are also being conducted to dispel rumours.

The cops are also taking preventive actions against criminals on record.

A senior officer from Pimpri-Chinchwad police said, “We are conducting meetings with people from different communities and appealing to them to maintain peace, no matter which way the verdict goes. We have also asked them to inform us immediately if they notice anybody spreading rumours or offending posts, video and audio clips.”

The cybercrime cell teams are also keeping a watch on social media and WhatsApp round the clock to delete offensive posts and take action against those sharing them. Pune Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham said, “We are taking all precautionary measures.”
