Police chief launches book ‘Police Files’

Pune: The Police Commissioner of Pune K Venkatesham on Friday evening launched a book, ‘Police Files,’ which narrates the stories of police officials while investigating and handling criminal cases. The book was conceptualised by the police chief himself and was published by Vishwakarma Publications and was launched at Pune
International Literary Festival at Yashada in Baner. IPS Officer Meeran Borwankar, who retired as DG Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPRD), Maharashtra CID Chief Atulchandra Kulkarni, Director Nagraj Manjule, Chairman of Vishwakarma group Rajkumar Agarwal and other dignitaries were present for the book launch event.

Speaking at the event, Borwankar said that it is essential to reflect on the contribution of police officials in society and literature is one medium, which can be used for the same.

“While only few stories can be accommodated in a book, the book is a small reflection of the immense work done by the police department while solving each case,” added Borwankar.

Forty best stories from over 200 were selected for publication.

Police Chief K Venkatesham said, “Literature is the culture of the city and so we just thought to contribute to the same.”

Speaking at the launch, Maharashtra CID Chief Kulkarni said that police officials are supposed to be reticent and composed, as they cannot explain much in such literary piece or it would benefit the criminals.
