Police book man for harassing woman

Pune: A man has been booked by Kothrud police for sexually harassing a woman after hacking her cell phone. A case in this regard was registered by the victim at Kothrud police station on Monday.

The accused person has been identified as Amit Purohit who met the 24-year-old woman during a music show in the year 2016.

The accused befriended her and exchanged her contact details with her. He remained in contact with her using phone and emails. After gaining her confidence the accused asked her to download an application by the name of ‘Airdroid’ for the smooth functioning of her phone and hacked her phone using that. He got accessed to all the details in her phone and started sending morphed obscene pictures of her on her WhatsApp with the intention to blackmail her, said police.

Police informed that Purohit continued blackmailing her for the period of two years by threatening to post morphed obscene pictures of her on social media. 

The woman approached the police on Monday as a last resort to get rid of the harassment meted out to her over the period of two years.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and 66 of IT Act against the accused.
