Police arrest 3 thieves, recover 35 stolen bikes

Pune: Officials from the property cell of Pune city police crime branch arrested three persons and recovered 35 stolen bikes worth Rs 10.17 lakh from their possession.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sachin Baliram Salunke (32) of Chakan, Samadhan Hanumant Jadhav and Mansingh Mohan Salunke, both residents of Borgaon, Latur.

Acting on a tip-off received by ACP Sameer Sheikh of crime branch, a trap was laid at PMT Chowk in Bhosari on February 12 and Sachin was arrested when he allegedly came there to steal bikes. Later, the other two accused were also arrested.

ACP Sheikh said, “The accused persons used to sell the bikes to people in rural areas at throwaway prices. There are no bikes available at such cheap rates (Rs 5,000). We have already identified five persons who had bought stolen bikes and they will be arrested soon.”

DCP (Crime) Pankaj Dahane added, “17 cases of vehicle thefts have been identified from Pune. Out of this, 13 complaints are from Pimpri police station, two from Bhosari, two from MIDC-Bhosari and one from Nigdi. Eight cases are from the jurisdiction of Pune rural police where four bikes were stolen from Rajgurunagar (Khed), three from Shikrapur and one from Manchar.”

The investigation team included Police Inspector SV Shinde, PSI Ezaz Shiledar and Policemen Datta Garud, Shubash Kumbhar, Anil Usulkar and others.
