PMPML worried about the maintenance of midibuses

PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) inducted midibuses in its fleet two years ago. Now, the engines of 35 buses have gone out of order. The buses are not plying currently.

The manufacturing company has replaced the engines as the warranty period is still on. Two years ago, 200 new midibuses were introduced by the PMPML. They were supplied by Tata Motors. These 9-metre long buses are run on diesel and have a seating capacity of 32 passengers.

“On an average, around 170 buses ply every day. However, in the last six months, 35 buses had a permanent engine failure, which had to be replaced. The PMPML contacted the company and they replaced it. Now, the warranty period will end soon. If something happens with the engine after the warranty period, the cost will be borne by the PMPML. Each engine costs Rs 5 lakh and if the PMPML replaces it in future, the maintenance cost will go high. It will directly impact PMPML revenue,” said a senior officer of PMPML.
