PMPML penalises 4 drivers found violating norms during surprise inspection

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has started taking action against errant drivers and conductors for not following the rules during their trips. The passengers have made complaints regarding improper display of display boards, buses not stopping at designated bus stops, buses not reaching on time and other related issues.

However, during a surprise inspection by a senior officers, it was found out that drivers were delaying the departure of the buses from the depot. According to the head of the PMPML headquarters Anant Waghmare, “In the last 8-10 days, we have started surprise inspection of the depots. The inspection was made from 7 am to 10 am and at night after 10 pm. We found that drivers are not following the rules framed by PMPML. Most of them were penalised and some were given a warning.”

According to Waghmare, during the inspection, he found that drivers were not displaying the correct route boards. “During the checking at Pune station, Katraj, Hadapsar and Kothrud drivers had put up the wrong display board. If the bus had came from Kothrud to Pune station, while going back, it had the same display board creating confusion among the passengers. Six drivers were found violating the norms and out of these, four were penalised and two were released after warning,” he said.

The PMPML had instructed all drivers not to use phone or earphones while driving. Three cases were detected where drivers were seen using earphones while driving and they were penalised. Apart from this, a driver plying a bus on the Pune-Hinjawadi route  was not stopping the bus at some stops. The officials also interacted with passengers and they complained about the same. However, since the driver was of a contractual bus, he was dismissed from duty and officials informed the private contractor.
