PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has decided not to allow standing passengers inside the buses due to COVID-19 outbreak. The decision was made to reduce crowding inside the bus. The PMPML administration has started implementing it from Friday.

For the past week, the number of passengers has gone down from 12 lakh to eight lakh per day. PMPML has withdrawn 583 buses from services from Tuesday.

“The outbreak forced all schools, colleges and private establishments to close. The government has already instructed IT companies to allow their employees to work from home. Due to this, the number of passengers has gone down. We have instructed all depots not to allow any standing passengers. This will help us to reduce decongestion in the bus,” said PMPML Traffic Manager Anant Waghmare.
