PMPML in full gear on Bus Day

PMPML in full gear on Bus Day

PUNE: To mark the Bus Day on February 10, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is planning to run 1,700 buses and expecting to generate Rs 2 crore revenue from passengers.

Traffic Manager of PMPML Anant Waghmare said, “The PMPML is observing Bus Day on February 10. It has been decided to run 1,700 buses on this day and generate Rs 2 crore in a day. The leaves and weekly off of staffers have been cancelled. All staff will present on this day.”

Every day around 1,685-1,700 PMPML is supposed to run in the city. According to this plan, the bus is expected to make 21,000-22,000 trips every day. But the reality is different and on an average 1,450-1,550 buses are released from depots on the roads. At least 4,000-4,500 trips are cancelled every day. Due to this, passengers were forced to wait for hours at the bus stand.

During the peak hours, the buses are jam-packed with passengers forcing many to wait for hours for another bus.

The PMPML has added 600 new buses. Out of this, 125 electric buses are running on a contract basis. Accordingly, the buses are not on the route as expected. Many buses are parked inside the different depots due to non-availability of drivers, conductors and some time for maintenance.

However, the PMPML administration has decided to run 1,700 buses on February 10 on Bus Day. The leaves of drivers, conductors have been cancelled.

All drivers will be given incentives on this day. Also, the depot manager, controllers, ticket checkers have been asked to remain present and help the passengers.
