PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to undertake a drive in order to take action against hawkers violating rules mentioned in the Hawkers Policy.
As per the Supreme Court’s order, the PMC has implemented hawkers policy since 2014. However, the policy has not been implemented effectively even after five years, as the citizens have claimed that the hawkers are not following policy rules.
Under this policy, the administration surveyed about 28,000 hawkers in the city. Thereafter, biometric registrations of around 21,000 hawkers were done.
The corporation has declared ‘No Hawker Zones’ in parts of the city. However, it has come to the fore that many of them are carrying out business in ‘No Hawker zones’. As a result, the administration has decided to check their licences.
A senior officials of PMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department said, “The licence issued to a hawker mentions the area and zone where he can operate. Now, we will check whether the hawkers are doing their business in their zone. If we find hawkers are violating policy rules, action will be taken and their licence will be cancelled.”
The PMC has set rules in Hawkers Policy-2015 that includes not cooking food in stalls, running a business at a particular timing, displaying licence at the stall, running the business at a particular area and zone.
The corporation’s anti-encroachment inspector will check all rules by visiting stalls and will submit a report to the anti-encroachment department of the PMC.

People are registering complaints against hawkers in Kalyani Nagar, Fergusson College Road, Sutar-Dahanukar Colony in Kothrud, Sakhar Sankul at Shivajinagar, Saurabh Hall, Ruby Hall, Sinhgad Road, Hadapsar, Kondhwa-Mithanagar, Aundh area. The corporation has decided to take action against hawkers in these areas.
