PMC will begin Ambil Odha repair work worth Rs 77 crore

PUNE:  The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s Standing Committee has approved the civic administration’s proposal to begin the repair work of Ambil Odha in the city after flash floods destroyed parts of its compound wall. The committee has sanctioned Rs 77 crore immediately for the same.

After the flash floods on September 25, 2019, the PMC had asked a private agency to survey and estimate the cost of the repair work of Ambil Odha, which passes through Katraj, Dhankawadi and Sahakar Nagar areas.

The purpose of the survey is to improve the safety of residents along the nala.

The survey was also done also to increase its water carrying capacity. The agency survey estimated that Rs 271 crore will be required to repair and restore Ambil Odha. The Standing Committee has approved Rs 77 crore to begin the work immediately. The tenders are yet to be floated and actual works will start within two months.

According to civic officials, the project is to be implemented after the floods damaged the areas on September 25. The gushing water caused problems to residents in these areas. It had also led to damage to residential properties.

The project work will include deepening of the channel, cleaning of the nala and construction of retaining walls along the nala. According to a civic official, a retaining wall will be built adjacent to the residential areas. Nearly five km-long of wall is to be constructed along the nala.
