PMC spends Rs 2 crore for pothole repair every year

PUNE: It has been revealed that every year, the municipal corporation spends Rs 2 crore to carry out the pothole repair work. 

The information was released while responding to a written question asked by an elected member during monthly general body (GB) meeting. PMC road department has given statistics of last five years of pothole repair work.

Congress corporator Rafiiq Sheikh submitted a written question in general body meeting regarding money spent on pothole repair and other road-related works. 

While responding to this question, the PMC stated that they have spent around Rs 10 crore on pothole repair and other road-related works in the last five years. The Road Department has spent Rs 3.14 crore while 

Rs 6.88 crore were spent at ward level to carry out repair from 2015-16 till date.

Based on statistics provided by the Road Department, the Pune municipal corporation has spent average Rs 2 crore for pothole and other road-related work. 

The civic body uses money for pothole repair as well as resurfacing of roads before monsoon. 

Every year, there is a certain amount allocated for road repair work in annual budget. In ward office level, there was a provision of Rs 9.95 crore road repair works. 

There are 15 ward offices in the city which look after local roads in their respective areas. Otherside, main road department takes care of major roads. 

While speaking to Sakal Times, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Road Department, Aniruddha Pawaskar said, “The amount is not huge one. We are not only spending this amount on pothole repair but also for carrying resurfacing and restatement of roads, footpath repair etc. There are a total of 1,400 kilometre of length of roads in the city. Out of that, main department takes care of more than 12 mm width of roads.”
