PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has spent the maximum amount to repair potholes in Aundh-Baner-Balewadi (ABB) for the Area Based Development under the Smart City plan as compared to other areas. The Aundh-Baner ward office spent Rs 12 lakh during the monsoon to repair potholes.
Depending on the success of the plan, it will be implemented across the city. Under the project, organised parking will be provided, public transport will be promoted and traffic congestions will be reduced. Pune Smart City Development Corp Ltd (PSCDCL) will operate as the nodal agency for this project in consultation with the PMC. It will evaluate the feasibility of the project based on the results.
This was revealed after local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Amol Balwadkar had asked a written question to PMC’s road department about the expenditure on road repair work. Replying to his query, the road department provided the ward-wise expenditure on road repair work in 2019-20.
According to the road department, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has divided pothole repair work at two levels - the main road department will repair potholes on the roads with over 12-metre of width. The ward office will repair potholes on roads with less than 12-metre width.
As per information mentioned in the written answer, the PMC spent around Rs 1 crore to repair potholes in financial year 2019-20. There are 15 ward offices in Pune city. Out of that, Aundh-Baner ward office spent Rs 11.96 lakh whereas Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar, Warje-Karvenagar, Kondhwa-Yevalewadi, Kasba-Vishrambaug Wada have not spent a single penny on road repair.
