PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed the suggestions and objections process of Balbharati-Paud Road, which will be an alternative to the heavily crowded Law College Road. Now, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in the final stage and the consultant will submit it soon.

A decade after its proposal, the PMC road department decided to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the road in 2017. It was conducted in 2018. The civic body granted the work to conduct EIA to KE Environmental Consultancy company. It conducted the EIA of Paud Phata-Balbharati road. The company, along with the civic body’s road department, held a public meet to provide details on the project and listen to people’s opinions.

PMC road department Executive Engineer Abhijit Dombe said, “We prepared the EIA of the road and provided information to the public. It was part of a socio-economic survey and the consultancy called a meeting of the public, in which the public registered their opinions on the project based on the EIA. Some citizens made suggestions which have been included in the DPR. The final DPR of the project is being readied and the consultant will submit it soon.”

Right now, the Law College Road is always congested due to ever-increasing traffic volume. There is a need for an alternative route. The link road is one of the alternatives. It will shorten the distance and save time for commuters.
