PMC seeks zero balance a/cs of students’ parents for DBT

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to send letters to banks to open zero balance account for direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for PMC-run school students’ parents.

The PMC has introduced DBT scheme as per State government directives to transfer money to students’ bank accounts through DBT to purchase school uniform and stationery items.

However, banks did not open zero balance account of parents. Most of the students didn’t get money. This academic year, the PMC has decided to transfer money to students’ accounts before June 30, 2019.

As per directives of State Government’s  Planning Department, the PMC has made a policy and list of items and their procedure.  The PMC School Board provides uniforms (two sets), PT dress and sweater, boot and socks, school bag, notebook, drawing book, stationery, slate and raincoat every year.

Speaking to Sakal Times, PMC School Board Administrator Shivaji Daundkar said, “Additional Municipal Commissioner Rubal Agrawal conducted a review meeting of DBT scheme of PMC school students. Last year, the PMC was not able to transfer money to all students’ bank accounts.”

“The banks did not open zero bank account of students’ parents and banks cut down some amount from students’ stationery item purchase amount,” Daundkar said.

“Now, we have decided to send a letter to banks and request them to open zero balance account of students’ parents instead of saving account. We have listed around 55 banks which include nationalised banks, scheduled banks and cooperative banks. We have to complete transfer of amount by June 30. The academic year will start from June 17,” he added.
