PMC e-bus funds diverted to outsource cleaning work

PUNE: When While there is shortage of buses in the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has diverted Rs 33.46 crore allotted to PMPML to outsource cleaning work. The proposal was passed at the monthly General Body meeting.

The PMC administration tabled the proposal to allow diversion of Rs 33.46 crore, which was allotted to procure e-buses on Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The proposal was passed at Tuesday’s General Body meeting. The administration wanted funds to pay bills of outsourcing manpower for cleanliness work in the city.

In this proposal, not a single member of any political party objected. But, some corporators showed displeasure as their ward offices did not get enough money to pay bills to contractual sweepers.

PMC Solid Waste Management Department Joint Municipal Commissioner Dnyaneshwar Molak said, “There is a shortage of manpower to clean suburban areas and newly merged villages. Now, we can use contractual manpower to keep the city clean.”
