PMC appeals to mandals to set up rooms for lactating mothers

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to Ganesh mandals to set up ‘Hirkani Kaksha’ – a special room for lactating mothers to feed their children during Ganesh festival. Deputy Mayor Siddharth Dhende has taken this initiative for setting up the ‘kaksha’ or room. 

In another decision, PMC has decided to focus on cleanliness during the festival by conducting regular visits to different parts of the city. 

Dhende said, “Many women and small children visit the city during Ganesh festival. So, we have decided to approach Ganesh mandals and have requested them to set up a room for lactating mothers to feed their children. The State government has made provision of such rooms at  State Transport (ST) depot with the name of ‘Hirkani Kaksha’. We are also appealing mandals to set up such kind of kaksha.” 

“Some mandals have responded to PMC’s appeal. In the coming two days, such special rooms will be set up,” he added.

Officers to check cleanliness in peth areas
During the 10 days of Ganesh festival, the corporation has decided to conduct cleanliness drive during night time. The corporation will be focusing more on peth areas for that as most of the prominent Ganesh mandals are located in these areas. For this, the PMC has given responsibility to Kasba-Vishrambaugwada ward office. 
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has taken up this initiative. He has issued an order to submit a report about cleanliness. The drive will start on September 14 and will end on September 21. 

It will be held between 12 at midnight and 3 am. The municipal commissioner will visit peth areas on September 14. He has assigned one officer each day to check the cleanliness. 

City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, Chief Engineer of Water Supply Department VG Kulkarni, Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Nimbalkar, Chief Superintendent of Electrical Department Srinivas Kandul, Road Department Chief Aniruddha Pawaskar, Additional Municipal Commissioner Sheetal Ugle and Building Permission Department Superintendent Rajendra Raut will check the cleanliness work.
