PUNE: After covering 10,000 km distance across the country, the motor car expedition as part of platinum jubilee year celebrations of INS Shivaji, Lonavla, culminated on Thursday.
INS Shivaji, a premier category ‘A’ training establishment of Indian Navy, is commemorating the 75th year of her commission. As a part of the celebrations, several events are being conducted from Feb 15, 2019 to Feb 15, 2020. An outreach on wheels through a motor car expedition, themed ‘Propellers and Wheels - Steering to Shape the Future’ was undertaken by the officers, sailors and defence civilians of the establishment from March 26 to May 9 in association with Mahindra & Mahindra and Rise India Oil Corporation.
The programme was organised with the primary aim of touching all major military training establishments and academic institutes of repute across the country to increase awareness among the youths about the Indian Armed Forces and Indian Navy in particular and various prospects thereof. The programme also aimed at connecting with personnel of Army, Navy and Air Force to foster camaraderie with sister Services and Veterans across the country.
Cmde K Srinivas, Station Commander Lonavla, said, “The aim of this event was to increase awareness among the youths of the country about the Indian Navy and educate them on career options and prospects within the Armed Forces. The expedition team interacted with thousands of students.”
