Pimpri Chinchwad slum pockets contribute in majority of COVID-19 cases

Pimpri: Pimpri Chinchwad area is witnessing a huge spike in coronavirus cases. The slum pockets in the area are in restless mode despite the various efforts made by administration and police on maintaining the basic precautionary measures. From past few days, it has been observed the number of cases reported from the slum pocket is increasing day by day.

Slums areas in Pune city and now in Pimpri Chinchwad are becoming the epicentre of the COVID-19. The reason behind the inclining number of cases in slum pockets is people living within congested rooms, over-crowded housing, sharing basic amenities and more.

Most of the slum pockets where the cases are rising, people here are working as domestic maids, security guards, helpers and also working in industrial units as workers.

Till now, Pimpri Chinchwad has reported over 1,370 COVID-19 positive patients, of which around 810 patients have been recovered from the infection. The coronavirus is rapidly increasing in the slum areas especially it is rapidly seen transmitted in Chikhali, Tathawade, Charoli, Dapodi, Anandnagar, Indiranagar, Rupeenagar, Bhatnagar, Ajantanagar. The PCMC authorities have also started a campaign to raise awareness about the pandemic.

The areas such as Nanechawl, Bhuddhanagar, Sambhajinagar, Kasewadi areas in Pimpri has also witnessed a rise in COVID-19. As per the new study of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) it has been observed that the COVID-19 is transmitted in slum areas to more one family members in each of the houses.

The PCMC authorities have come up with few precautionary guidelines

  • Prefer to approached various quarantine homes set up by the authorities. If you are witnessing symptoms of the infection, one must isolate yourself at the home.
  • Practice social distancing.
  • Keep the vessels used for drinking water, food and other used by patients separately.
