Pimpri-Chinchwad police nab Latur man with marijuana worth Rs five lakh; probe reveals he obtained e-pass with false information

Pune: Crime branch sleuths of Pimpri-Chinchwad police arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of possessing marijuana worth Rs 5 lakh. Investigations revealed that the suspect had travelled to Pune from Latur based on a police pass obtained by submitting false information.

The suspect has been identified as Allabaksh Naseer Shaikh (26), a resident of Mahatma Gandhi Kushtadham, Sarola Road in Latur taluka. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Shakir Gaus Mouhoddin Jinedi (51), attached with the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Crime branch Pimpri has filed a complaint against the suspect at Chinchwad police station.

Shaikh has been booked under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Indian Penal Code and sections 8C and 20B (II) (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Shaikh was nabbed at Colony number 3 at Lakshmi Nagar in Walhekarwadi at Chinchwad on August 12. Apart from marijuana, a car worth Rs 5 lakh and some cash was also seized from his possession. He was produced in a local court and has been remanded in police custody for four days.

According to police, Shaikh had travelled from Latur to Pune in his Volkswagen car. He had obtained a police pass - mandatory for inter-district commuting in Maharashtra during the lockdown period - for travelling. He had submitted false information for obtaining the pass.

Pimpri-Chinchwad police received a tip-off about Shaikh's movement in his car bearing registration number MH12 HF 4681 in Chinchwad area. Police laid a trap to intercept his car. Three teams were formed which kept vigil at Wakad, Dange chowk and Chinchwad. Shaikh was finally nabbed at Lakshmi Nagar in Walhekarwadi area on August 12. Shaikh revealed during interrogation that he works as a cab driver and had procured the contraband from someone in Andhra Pradesh.
