Pune: IPS officer Krishna Prakash who took charge as the commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police recently has a novel idea to control the crime rate in the city. Krishna Prakash has now informed that to control the organised crime in the city, people’s participation will play a key role as a result, citizens taking part in a new initiative will get firearms license for security reasons.

Crimes such as theft occur in certain areas or particular areas of the city. Firearms licenses will be issued by the police to the citizens of such areas. Applications will be invited from interested citizens. Citizens who have not been charged with any crime, as well as citizens who are willing to work as night patrolling once a week can apply. Also, the concerned person will be required to buy the gun himself. A group of 20 to 25 citizens will be formed in one area or within the boundaries of the police station. They will also have a WhatsApp group. The group will be controlled by the concerned police station as well as officers from the police control room.

Unsafe places in the city or places where crime is constantly on the rise will be patrolled by civilians. A squad of at least two persons can patrol for one night.
