Pune: At present, there is a crisis of coronavirus pandemic and corona patients are being treated in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) hospitals including private hospitals.
As the number of patients is increasing exponentially, it has been reported that private hospitals are extorting COVID-19 patients.
A show-cause notice has been issued to the Phoenix Hospital in Rahatni area of Pimpri Chinchwad area for overcharging. It has also been asked to disclose within 48 hours. This action was taken by the team of PCMC.
After receiving complaints from the people N. Ashok Babu, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax Department, Pune has been appointed on behalf of the Pune Divisional Commissioner's Office to check whether the bills of expenses incurred by the hospitals are as per the rates fixed by the Government of Maharashtra.
A committee formed under his leadership inspected the medical bills of 16 patients at the Phoenix Hospital in Rahatni and found that the amounts charged to the patients are higher than the ones laid down by the government.
N. Ashok Babu's medical committee visited Phoenix Hospital and scrutinised the medical bills. The committee also found that the hospital had a single entrance for all patients, despite the government's instructions to charge extra for insured patients and to have separate entrances for COVID-19 patients.
Following this, the hospital administration has been instructed to make two separate entrances immediately.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appealed to the patients and family members to register their complaints on the email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org as well as on 8888006666 if the private hospitals have charged more medical bills from the corona affected patients in Pimpri Chinchwad area.
