Pilot hits out at BJP over CAA, NRC implementation

PUNE: Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Thursday hit out at the BJP-led Central government over the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He said, “Only the Central government wants this law to be implemented.”

He added, “Why would any state implement the law when even BJP’s alliance partners are not willing to do so?”

Pilot was speaking at a press interaction at Congress Bhavan. He said, “The Central government has created confusion in the minds of the people. Attention is being diverted from several important issues facing the country.”

He accused the Central government of trying to divide the country on religious lines. “The Constitution has given us equal rights under Article 14. How could they divide the country on the basis of religion? India will remain united forever,” said Pilot.

He said, “The government should not indulge in divisive politics and should focus on problems being faced by youths and farmers such as unemployment and import-export.”

“Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is in alliance with the BJP, last week said that NRC would not be implemented in his state. Now, if a BJP-supported state government is not willing to implement the Act, how can we do it in Rajasthan?” asked Pilot.

On the defeat of the BJP in the Jharkhand state assembly elections, Pilot said the people have shown the mirror to BJP.
