PGM, PGD admissions extended

PGM, PGD admissions extended

Pune: On Friday, the Supreme Court (SC) ordered extension of dates for revising the seat matrix till June 4. While the admissions to post graduate Medicine (PGM) and Dental (PGD) courses in Maharashtra were to end on May 31, followed by SC order, the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has issued a notice of extension of dates for admission till Tuesday (June 4).

The SC on Thursday had cancelled the benefit of 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker section (EWS) in post-graduate medical courses for academic year 2019-20 and stated it will not be applicable unless the Medical Council of India (MCI) increases the number of seats.

Accordingly, admissions under this category have been cancelled and the seats have been converted into open category and necessary reshuffling needs to be done.

‘In the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, we extend the time to complete the counselling and to complete the admission process in post graduate medical and dental courses for the Academic Year 2019-20 as directed above up to June 4. Failing to which a very serious view will be taken for not complying the interim order passed by the court in its true spirit,’ read the SC order.

Anand Rayate, Commissioner and competent authority of State CET Cell, issued a notification stating that the candidates who are admitted previously in private or minority colleges and selected at present in government colleges, can join the government colleges. He also directed the private institutions to relieve the concerned candidate immediately.

“Information about seats remaining vacant on account of such cancellation should be conveyed to the commissioner, State CET Cell and subsequently filled as per merit list from waitlisted candidates after obtaining permission from State CET Cell,” said Rayate.
