People protesting against 'Padmaavat' damage 10 vehicles in Pune

The incident took place near Vadgaon Bridge, police have arrested 15 people for rioting 

Pune: A group of people holding saffron flag damaged 10 vehicles near the Vadgaon Bridge on Tuesday midnight to protest against the release of film 'Padmaavat.' The Sinhagad Road police have arrested 15 people till now for rioting and also looting cash from people. 

Based on a complaint lodged by truck driver Mahesh Laxman Bhapkar of Phaltan in Satara district, an FIR has been registered against 20-25 people for unlawful assembly and rioting, with the Sinhagad Road police station. 

The incident took place around 11.45 pm. Bhapkar was going for delivery of goods to Mumbai when suddenly, the group members started stopping vehicles on the Pune-Bangalore Highway. They started hitting on the windscreen of the trucks with sticks and shouting that they will not allow the release of the film 'Padmaavat.' 

Two others - Avinash Edge of Jat in Sangli and Vasant Sarje of Karad in Satara district - have lodged a complaint that the rioters had snatched away Rs 2,700 and Rs 1,200 respectively from them. After their complaint, police have added charges of dacoity against the accused persons. 

DCP (Zone 2) Praveen Mundhe said, “Till now, 15 people have been arrested and we have also seized two bikes of the rioters. Search is on for remaining 10 to 15 people.” The arrested persons have been remanded to police custody till January 27 by the magistrate court.
