Pedestrian hit by cab inside railway station premises

PUNE: On Friday, a cab hit a pedestrian at the Pune railway station while he was crossing the vehicle lane meant for pick-up and dropping of passengers.

According to an eyewitness, “The car driver was talking on the mobile phone inside the station premises. The car hit the person, who received an injury on his head and was later sent to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment.”

The Pune Railway station premises is crowded now-a-days due to heavy movement of vehicles. There are three lanes for vehicles to pick and drop passengers. When there is less crowd, the drivers drive at high speed.

Kedar Dhamale, an auto-rickshaw driver and member of Aam Aadmi Rickshaw Sangathna, told Sakal Times that the app-based cab driver was driving fast and was talking on his phone at around 7.30 pm.

“We called 108 and sent the victim to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment. The driver was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).”

According to a source at Pune station, “The drivers stop their vehicles at the main gate, which is very close to the entry gate. The railway authority has created a wide space for vehicles for pick-up and dropping the passengers, but drivers, mostly cabs, are not maintaining the discipline inside the premises.”
