PCMC to spend `250 cr on pan-city project work

Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has planned the development work under the ‘pan-city project’ of the Smart City Mission. 

A system integrator will be hired for this work, for which one per cent of the cost of the project, ie Rs 2.5 crore, will be spent. 
The PCMC will initially execute works amounting to Rs 250 crore under the ‘pan-city project’. 

The Smart City project will be implemented in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal corporation limits through various modules including area-based development and ‘pan city solutions’. 

Pan-city solutions will focus on things such as the Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi access, transportation, water supply, solid waste management and operating system. 
Under the Smart City project, Rs 1,149 crore will be spent in the city. 

Of this, Rs 593 crore will be spent on area-based development and Rs 555 crore has been allocated for projects under pan-city solutions. 

Pan-city solutions include a fibre optic cable network across the city, 300 Wi-Fi spots, smart kiosks for citizens, CCTVs, transportation planning through the Internet, smart public transport, smart parking facility in the city, smart water supply facility, smart drainage system etc. 

Smart solid waste management, smart street lighting system, eco-friendly facilities, installation of command and control centres, GIS tracking system and effective use of social networking system and smart city mobile app will be available for the entire city in the scheme. 

The ‘Smart City’ proposal submitted by the municipal corporation and the State government will be implemented through Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Ltd. Pan-city projects will be undertaken by this company. The proposal for this topic was prepared by the consultancy firm ‘Ernest and Young’. 
The implementation of the project will be completed in 14 months. 

Implementation and maintenance of these projects will cost Rs 250 crore plus GST. The PCMC Standing Committee has approved the proposal to hire a system integrator for the 
project.
