PCMC eyes part of HAL land for public ground

PIMPRI: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) proposes to reserve 59 acres land of Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) for a multi-functional public ground. HAL has already initiated process for auction of 87 acres of its land to pay the  liabilities of the ailing public sector undertaking. The PCMC has proposed to acquire this land either through land acquisition by district collector or negotiation with the company.

The proposal to this effect has been submitted for the General Body meeting of the PCMC to be held on June 20.  According to the proposal, the PCMC needs to submit a proposal for reserving this land to the State government. PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar submitted this proposal to the Standing Committee.

The proposal says if this land is reserved for the said purpose it can be used for exhibitions, circus, cultural activities, sports competitions, religious and spiritual programmes, lectures,  political rallies, helipad and other purposes. If 59 acres of land are reserved for this purpose, the PCMC could construct administrative building on 10 per cent of the land and 90 per cent area will be keep open permanently.  The PCMC General Body is expected to give its nod to submit the proposal for acquisition of land to the District Collector. The General Body’s approval is required for initiating procedure for modification in the approved Development Plan of the city under Section 37 of Maharastra Regional Town Planning Act.

The administration could go ahead with acquisition of land once it gets approval from the General Body.

Last month, HAL initiated procedure for auction of 87 acres excess land. Only government entities can participate in the auction. Hence, the PCMC can participate in the auction.
