PCMC to construct 9,458 housing units for `885 cr

The project may be taken up under PM Awas Yojana

Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is planning to construct 9,458 housing units for economically weaker section of the society as well as housing for dis-housed (HDH).  

According to the plan, the civic body will spend Rs. 885 crore on the project which is going to be undertaken under Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana (PMAY) in which the government is planning to provide affordable housing for all by 2022. The proposal for the administrative approval for the project has been submitted to the civic general body meeting that is scheduled on June 20. 

The civic body is planning to construct homes on the reserved land at a different location in the city. As per the plan, the PCMC is going to construct EWS housing schemes at Ravet, Dighi, Dudulgaon, Moshi-Borhadewadi, Charholi and Wadmukhwadi. 

In these locations, the PCMC has reservations for EWS housing on an area measuring 12 hectars. Besides this, the civic body has a reservation of four-hectar land in Akurdi and Pimpri. In all these reserved plots, a housing scheme of 9,458 housing units is possible. Hence, the PCMC has initiated the scheme for the same. 

As per the plan, the civic body is going to construct 12-14 storeyed buildings. The Standing Committee of PCMC has approved the proposal for appointment of a consultant for the project. The consultant is supposed to carry out all pre-bid work for the project that includes preparing a plan and design of the project, preparing a detailed project report in time, to get the building permission, to procure all NOCs from all department and prepare a plan for amenities in the project. 

Under PMAY, the PCMC is expected to get Rs 1.5 lakh from the Central government and Rs 1 lakh from the State government for each housing unit. The total cost of the house will be Rs  8.27 lakh. The beneficiaries of the housing units will have to pay Rs 5.77 lakh as their contribution for availing the housing units in the scheme. The area of the each housing unit will be 322 square feet. The project will be undertaken by consuming 2.5 floor space index. Two floors will be reserved for parking.
