PCB increases ‘pay and park’ charges

PCB increases ‘pay and park’ charges

PUNE: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has decided to revise ‘Pay and Parking’ charges within the cantonment limits. It has also decided to implement the pay and parking services in the vicinity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Market.

The decisions were taken during a board meeting recently.

Earlier, the pay and parking charge within the cantonment limit was Rs 10 for four-wheelers up to four hours.

Now, the proposed charges are Rs 20 for four hours. At present, monthly pass was for Rs 300, while the proposed would be Rs 600. Similarly, the charges were Rs 4 for four hours for two-wheelers and Rs 150 per month, while in the proposed rates, it would be Rs 200 for a monthly pass.

“The board resolution was passed in the General Body meeting and the rates will become effective once the tenders will be floated and the new contractor takes over the parking contract,” said PCB Chief Executive Officer Amit Kumar.

“The pay and parking charges have not been revised since 2009. The decision was taken to revise the charges with a minimum amount. Also, it has been observed that there were a few unauthorised parking slots near the Shivaji Market and surrounding areas. And thus, the decision was taken to implement the pay and parking charges,” added Kumar.

The board had received a letter on July 4 from elected member Ashok Pawar requesting to implement pay and parking services in the surrounding areas of Shivaji Market, which can generate some revenue to the board besides resolving the issue of parking. The board will remove the unauthorised stalls around the market.

The light commercial vehicles parked on East Street between the church and the bus stop will be charged Rs 10 instead of Rs 8 for the first four hours.

Similarly, it has been proposed that Rs 300 will be charged per hour for an advertising vehicle instead of the existing Rs 200. Rates for the first four hours of parking for transport commercial buses have been hiked from Rs 60 to Rs 100, while goods carriage vehicle charge has been increased from existing Rs 50 to Rs 100.

The board noticed that to resolve the issue of unhygienic condition as well as unauthorised parking, the surrounding areas of the market be utilised as pay and parking site.

PCB Vice President Vivek Yadav said, “There was a marginal increase in the parking rates as there was a provision for increasing the rates as per the law. ”
