PCB expedites tender for garbage processing plant after MPCB notice

Pune: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) is scurrying to finalise a fresh tender for setting up its capping (garbage processing) plant at Hadapsar following the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB)’s notice to the board on August 2018, for failing to comply with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules 2016.

Currently, the PCB does not have a processing plant at the trenching ground site.

According to DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of PCB, a fresh tender will be floated for the capping project soon.

Yadav said,  “We will finalise the tender in the next board meeting. We are expediting the tender procedure as we have ensured the MPCB and the Urban Development Department that the capping project will begin at the new processing plant as early as possible.”

“Till now, solid waste was being dumped at the site and was not processed. Only biodegradable waste was segregated and was processed at the vermiculture plant. After the tender is finalised, the waste which is dumped now will be scientifically capped and a green cover would be maintained on it. The processing plant will process the remaining waste,” Yadav added.
