Patient from Croatia treated in Pune for fistula

Pune: A 47-year-old woman from Croatia was diagnosed and treated successfully for complex blind anal fistula at Healing Hands Clinic based in Pune. The patient was misdiagnosed earlier and later underwent four unsuccessful surgeries in Croatia over last five years.

Dr Ashwin Porwal, who treated the woman, said the patient was misdiagnosed for fissure and underwent four surgeries in Croatia in last five years. “With the help of a 3D Endo Anal Imaging we diagnosed her problem accurately. She was treated using our special Distal Laser Proximal Ligation (DLPL) technique and has recovered fast. DLPL technique is useful for treating recurrent and complicated fistulas. It benefits patients as well as doctors. DLPL helps in early recovery of patients and prevention of recurrence of fistula,” Dr Porwal added.

The woman was a sportsperson with routine bowel habit, no history of children and no history of overly tight or spastic anal sphincter muscles. In September 2013, she underwent ligation procedure on hemorrhoid. After this procedure she developed acute anal fissure which later became chronic with hypertropied anal papilla and skin tags. Topical treatments only resulted in fissure healing, but it never healed completely. Later in May 2017, she underwent a surgery but as a consequence of abscess incision the anal fistula developed.

“I read about the DLPL procedure carried out at this Pune-based clinic. The DLPL seems an easier recovery for patient from classic flap surgery. So I contacted the doctor and asked him if he has a solution in my case,” said the patient.
