Over 32K traffic offenders fined

PUNE: In a span of seven days, officials of the city traffic police have penalised 32,515 persons for violation of traffic norms and have collected Rs 76.48 lakh as fine from these persons. 

Police officials have also taken action against 441 hawkers for causing obstruction to traffic. 

This information was shared by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tejaswi Satpute. The police officers said that the action was taken following the implementation of ‘no traffic rule violation zones’ across the city, where commuters are fined for practically every traffic violation. 

Information on the violators is also shared with the Regional Transport Office and Regional Passport Office, said the police. 

Earlier, the Traffic Police Branch has conducted drives for rule violations under particular heads, these include driving under influence, tinted glass on cars, commuters not wearing helmets and using seat belts, and parking of vehicles in no-parking zones. 

The city traffic police have also barred the entry of luxury buses into the city from 8 am to 12 noon and from 5 pm to 9 pm in order to reduce congestion of traffic in the city. 

Earlier, The traffic branch of the Pune city police has recovered Rs 2.71 lakh fine amount from 97 out of the 200 top traffic rule violators, who had not paid the penalty amount.

City traffic police department had declared  particular areas as ‘no traffic violation zone’ for instilling traffic safety.
