Over 2.85 lakh people rescued in Pune division

PUNE: With two more flood-related deaths, the fatality figure in the recent deluge in Pune division has increased to 29 on Friday. 

Officials of the district administration said that about 2.85 lakh people have been rescued in recent floods across Pune division. An official of district administration said that about 47 villages are still submerged in water.

Speaking about the flood situation, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said that the water level has reduced by 2 feet in Kolhapur. He also added that by 3 inches in Sangli, which is a good indication. The divisional commissioner was addressing a press meet on Friday evening. He said that 11 persons are still missing in Pune division which includes, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts. “In Sangli, food packets were dropped using helicopter at Bhilawadi and Sangalwadi. Currently, there is heavy rainfall in Mahabaleshwar,” he added. 

In Kolhapur, 28 villages including Shirol, Gaganbavda, Karvir and Hatkanangale are submerged. “About 9,000 persons are stranded in Kolhapur and 30,000 in Sangli. The rescue operation is on and we are appealing to the people to donate materials required to help flood-affected people,” said Mhaisekar.

RS 76 CRORE RELIEF
- The Pune division will disburse funds of Rs 76 crore to help the flood-affected people. Of which, the Pune district will get Rs 5 crore, Solapur Rs 1 crore, Sangli and Kolhapur Rs 25 crore each and Rs 20 crore for Satara. 
- Officials said that flood-affected people in the city would get Rs 15,000 and people affected in the rural areas will get Rs 10,000.
