PUNE: District Collector Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday said that the administration has sent the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) to service voters, including officials from the Defence Department.
The collector said that the ETPBS has helped increased the number of service voters from a mere 10 per cent to 60 per cent and the department is trying to further raise this figure to 70 per cent.
He also said that the designated officials receive the ballots from their constituency which is then downloaded after verification. Once the ballot is received, the voter casts the vote and returns the ballot in a sealed envelope which is opened on the day of counting. The process is secure and service voters can cast their vote through the system from anywhere outside their constituency.
There are over a lakh such voters who will be casting their votes through the system.
The collector also visited some polling stations to check for availability of necessary facilities like toilets, drinking water arrangement, availability of wheelchairs and electricity at the centres.
