Prima facie, the murder seems to be the result of an old rivalry

Pune: The nephew of a former NCP corporator was bludgeoned to death over an old rivalry in Dighi here on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder.

The deceased, identified as Rajendra Khedekar (30), was a resident of Charholi in Dighi. He was allegedly murdered by one Pravin alias Pappu Kadam (30), also a resident of Charholi. Kadam used a hammer to kill the deceased, the nephew of former NCP corporator Ghansyam Khedekar.

Prima facie, the murder seems to be the result of an old rivalry.

Dighi police informed that Kadam and Khedkar had a small tiff six months back after which they met each other on Monday night. Both were having alcohol and got into an argument, which led to the murder.

Kadam hammered Khedekar to death and fled from the spot.

Khedekar’s body was discovered by the locals at around 12 noon on Tuesday after which the matter was reported to the police. Police got suspicious about Kadam due to his absence from his residence and then apprehended him.

A case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against the accused at Dighi Police station.
