Pune: To mark its 54th Foundation Day, Sancheti Hospital launched fast-track knee replacement surgery with highly specialised and technically advanced procedures, patient management protocols, discharge in a shorter time with negligible pain and greater patient satisfaction.
While giving details about the fast track knee replacement surgery in a press conference here on Tuesday, Chairman and Managing Director of Sancheti Hospital Dr Parag Sancheti said, “Fast-track knee surgery means that healthy patients with debilitating knee problems can be fast-tracked to be operated under highly specialised and technically advanced procedures, discharged in a shorter time with negligible pain, and greater patient satisfaction. This kind of surgery will help patients in getting discharged within 72 hours and our team of physiotherapists will aid the patients with physiotherapy sessions at their homes after the patient is discharged.”
He further added that because of the new mechanisms of pain control, the average stay of the patient at the hospital will be reduced from six to seven days to three days. The operation can be completed in 30 to 35 minutes as against more than 1 hour required earlier.
Consultant Knee Surgeon Dr Kailash Patil said, “Patient can be admitted on OPD basis on the same day of the operation, which normally happens in morning hours. For now, the fast-track surgeries will be conducted for unilateral (one knee) procedures.”
