“As per the admissions regulations, professional degree courses mandate a student to produce caste validity certificate. Diploma courses do not have such requirements. Therefore, to ease the admissions procedure for them, the State government has made these provisions,” said Gaikwad.

PUNE: The admissions to diploma courses in polytechnic colleges post Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) will now be conducted by the State Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) from the academic year 2019-2020.

The State Higher and Technical Education Department has constituted Maharashtra State Technical Diploma Courses Educational Institutions (Admission) Rules, 2019, under which admissions will be given by DTE, stated Assistant Joint Director of DTE, Pune Region, Rajendra Gaikwad.

Earlier, the Admission Regulations Authority (ARA) would conduct the admissions process to diploma courses post SSC and HSC. Now, the DTE has been appointed as the competent authority to conduct the admissions.

The rules include first-year post SSC in diploma engineering and direct second-year admission post HSC in diploma courses of hotel management, pharmaceutical, surface coating, etc, in polytechnic colleges.

These rules are applicable for admissions in autonomous, non-autonomous, aided and unaided private polytechnic colleges besides universities managed by diploma institutes or polytechnics.

An official from Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) stated that the provision to transfer the admissions procedure for diploma courses to DTE was decided last year. Now, the regulations have been issued to conduct the admissions accordingly.

“As per the admissions regulations, professional degree courses mandate a student to produce caste validity certificate. Diploma courses do not have such requirements. Therefore, to ease the admissions procedure for them, the State government has made these provisions,” said Gaikwad.
