Pune: This was not the cloudburst, but just the intense rainfall activity”, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather and climate division head Anupam Kashyapi. He said that the warning of intense rainfall along with thunderstorm was very well predicted by IMD.
The cloudburst happens when the area receives more than 90 cm of rains in one hour”, said Kashyapi.
He said that due to weak Monsoon current and upper air cyclonic activity from Bihar to Maharashtra resulted in the intense rainfall in the southern part of the city. On Thursday too we would experience similar activity and it will drastically decrease from Friday onwards.
Shivajinagar area received 5.3 cm of rains on Wednesday. Generally, this type of rainfall activity was observed after the increase in the day temperature, coupled with good moisture content and heat load increasing”, he said.
