No politics in ED questioning Raj: Patil

Pune: Stating that there is no politics involved in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) questioning Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil warned that similar cases can also happen with the leaders who have joined the BJP. Patil added that ED is an independent organisation and it works according to the law.

Patil, who is the Pune District Guardian Minister and Public Work Department Cabinet Minister, was in the city to conduct Pune District Planning and District Development Council’s meeting at Council Hall on Friday.

Responding to a question related to the MNS chief being summoned by the ED, Patil said, “The ED is not just questioning BJP outsiders, it can even happen to leaders that are joining the party. ED is an independent body of government. It carries out its groundwork and collects information before taking action on anyone.”

Speaking on the issue of loudspeakers, he said, “The Apex court has given directives on sound pollution. We have to abide by the order. If anyone tries to violate, they will face legal action.”

Against the backdrop of this meeting, residents of 27 villages in Indapur taluka conducted an agitation. The villagers claimed that they were not getting any drinking water. Patil assured them that water will be provided from Ujani Dam. Patil also instructed the district administration to prepare a proposal of lifting water from Ujani backwaters and get sanction from the government at the earliest.
