PUNE: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has decided to suspend the issuance of new driving licences and vehicle permits until March 31. Besides, the Central government offices in Pune are also taking precautionary measures to halt the spread of COVID-19.

“To avoid the spread of coronavirus, the decision has been taken that only registration of new vehicles will continue as that would require visiting showrooms and not government offices. There will be no work on the new licence,” said Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde.

The officer also requested citizens to visit only if they have work and avoid gathering in the office. The staff at RTO is also using masks, sanitisers during the work.

Besides, the Pune region of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) also has minimised official visits in the light of COVID-19. A statement released by the office stated that gathering of a large number of people raised the risk of COVID-19 transmission. So, all employees and employers are requested to get their queries and grievances settled over telephone or email. Employees and employers should visit the office only in case of emergencies.
