PUNE: The District Election Commission has stopped the recruitment process for filling posts of drivers and conductors of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). The process had started one-and-half years ago.
The Transport Department had started the recruitment process for new buses, which will be added in the fleet. The officials said that documents of eligible candidates are not to be verified. They expressed the probability that the process has already been delayed and it will take more time.
The recruitment process for drivers and conductors started in 2017. A written examination was conducted. As many as 3,000 candidates gave the examination. The new buses were not added in that period.
A source from PMPML said, “Now, the buses have been inducted in the fleet. The PMPML administration had planned to appoint new drivers and conductors in a phased manner as per addition of the buses in the fleet.”
“In the first phase, the department was going to begin with the document verification of 550 posts on April 8, 2019. By April 20, every day around 160 applicants’ names were to be announced. Applicants from Ahmednagar, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur and other cities reached the Pune head office on Monday. In the afternoon, officers of the District Election Commission arrived at the PMPML office and stopped the entire process. They objected to the verification of the documents. The PMPML officials were told by Election Commission officials that the candidates will not be appointed immediately after verification of the documents,” said the source.
The Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha election was implemented from March 10. Polling for Pune and Baramati seat is on April 23 and for Maval and Shirur seat it is on April 29.
